One of ARM2u’s main milestones is to participe in the powered arm prosthetic race of CYBATHLON competition organized by the ETH Zürich with a self developed myoelectric prosthetic arm. Such short term goal will push forward our project while fostering our dedication, commitment and integrity.

The spirit of the team goes beyond building a prototype to specifically overcome the challenges presented in the competition , but to develop a model that responds to the true needs in the daily lives of people in need of assistive technologies.

Similarly, our vision of the future is the consolidation of a team in the form of a university project and / or to undertake a company in the future which can create a positive social impact by supporting the diversity and social inclusion of users all around the globe. That is to say, ARM2U intends to have continuity over time and to stablish itself as a benchmark for students who want to take part in a real and challenging project with social implications. Therefore, we intend to create a community where all members can grow as professionals and fellow members of a considerate society.

CYBATHLON – moving people and technology

The CYBATHLON is a unique championship in which people with physical disabilities compete against each other to complete everyday tasks using state-of-the-art technical assistance systems.

Robert Riener, professor of Sensory-Motor Systems at ETH Zurich, initiated the CYBATHLON in 2013 as a platform for the development of everyday-suitable assistance systems. The first competition organised by ETH Zurich was than successfully launched in 2016. 66 pilots from 25 nations competed in six different disciplines in a sold-out stadium in Zurich.

The success of the premiere was the final push to convince the Organising Committee and the heads of ETH Zurich that the CYBATHLON must continue, also under the umbrella of ETH Zurich.
